Press Release Body = Offers to pay teenager victim in an out-of-court settlement

Health chiefs of Addenbrooke's Hospital admitted several medical errors made by
their team during the birth of Jessica Smith, now 17 years old, which contributed to
her having cerebral palsy. The hospital's administrators agreed to pay damages to
Smith in a settlement made out of court for the case between the said hospital
located in Cambridge and the teenaged victim born in the hospital's Rosie maternity
unit.

Los Angeles, California, June 29, 2007 - Jessica Smith's mother, Linda was admitted
to Addenbrooke's Rosie maternity unit last August 1989. Upon admittance, the medical
staff noticed several signs that the baby's heart is manifesting distress.

Because of this, the doctors in charge of the delivery decided to conduct an
emergency caesarean operation. However, they later retracted after deciding that
there were signs of recovery in the baby's heartbeat.

Linda gave birth to Jessica by means of natural method but after the baby was
delivered, about two hours after, there were no indications that she was alive.

The baby was resuscitated by the staff but became ill for several days and then
developed cerebral palsy.

Trefine Maynard, a clinical negligence specialist managed the legal case of the
victim. According to her, the hospital insisted initially that there would have been
no difference to Jessica's catastrophic situation had they continued with the
caesarean operation. However, when the legal case had been launched they finally
admitted responsibility to the victim's parents for some of the injuries sustained.

The victim is also from Cambridge and presently, because of her birth defects, she
is dependent on the care and assistance of family and health providers for all the
necessary aspects in her life.

The settlement has made need to be presented in a court of approval since the victim
is a minor and is impaired intellectually.

According to Maynard, the Hospital payment will be beneficial to allow Jessica, who
is presently living with her family, be moved into accommodations that will
specially adapt to her condition and have the appropriate caring facilities and
equipment.
